Represent your country in the Pokerstars World Cup of Poker VI, running now! This is a tournament series pitting every country in the world against each other in a (not-so) friendly game of poker. The winners will give bragging rights to all their countrymen for a year.
In the sixth annual World Cup of Poker, 54 countries will be competing for a $290,000 prize pool. The winners will take down a cool hundred grand, and get to call themselves the best poker players in the world. The action all starts online at Pokerstars, then ends in the Bahamas at the live Grand Final. The money would be great, but the trip to the Bahamas is enough for me. Fruity booze, suntanned girls, beaches…beaches with fruity booze and suntanned girls….ahh yes, I need a vacation!
Okay, back to the tournament.
Every player at Pokerstars has a chance to represent their country, nobody is left out. Each country will have 4 team members who will battle it out. For every country, the top 2 leader board players will automatically win two spots on the team. The other two players will be selected based on their results in the National Team Decider freeroll tournaments being held at Pokerstars.
For teams other than US, Canada, and Germany, there will be two National Team Decider freerolls, where the winners of each win a spot on the team. That’s it, win one of the freerolls and you’re in!
For US, Canadian, and German players, there are state, province, and national teams. So, if you live in any of these countries, there are 12 spots available and a few different ways to qualify. For more information on how to win your spot on a team, follow this link to Pokerstars.
Pokerstars will be picking up the tab for travel and hotel accommodations. Each team will be given a celebrity team captain and will compete in a playoff that will determine how many starting chips each team will have. From there, it’s a giant convoluted mess that nobody except the creators of the event can understand…but who cares, you’re in the Bahamas baby! You’ll be so drunk you won’t care how the thing plays out anyway.
Pokerstars seems to have figured out a way to make a tournament so confusing that even the math guru’s can’t add it up. There are captains, midfielders, strikers, defenders, goalies, team playoff A, B, C, D & D. That’s not a typo, there are two playoff D’s…wtf?? Then teams are awarded points for this place or that place, then there are 9 different chip multipliers, player substitutions during play (like WWE wrestling I guess), then the prizes will be handed out after Einstein has been awaken from the dead to calculate all this stuff.
My brain hurts and I didn’t even try to dissect the numbers!
The point is, this is a tournament series that costs you nothing to play, sends players on all-expense paid trips to the Bahamas, and free poker tournaments with lots of cash involved. What more can we ask for?
